The talk this month will be about the exciting - BLOODHOUND SSC Project
What is Bloodhound?
Well, it is a project to break the world land speed record with a speed of over 1,000mph. But it is also “Landmark Engineering Project†to get
children involved and excited about science – and it is based in Bristol!
The ‘car’ will be powered by a Eurofighter jet engine and a 2-stage rocket.
Involved are driver Andy Green, who achieved a record of 763mph in 1997 with Thrust SSC, and former holder Richard Noble.
A revised mock-up is touring the country. The real car will be built in 2011 and the record attempt will be made in 2012 at a dried-up lake bed in South Africa.
You can get more information at www.bloudhoundssc.com. Even better, come to the January Monthly Meeting - where trained Bloodhound 'Ambassador' Martin Evans (our very own Martin Evans) will be telling us more about this fantastic project!
The evening will include videos, an update on progress to 1000mph and information on how you can become actively involved in the project
