Founded in 1958 to improve local driving standards, Bristol Advanced Motorists is today best known for our Skill for Life advanced driving programme.
The Group has grown to become the leading road safety charity throughout Bristol and the Southwest, committed to raising driving standards, engaging with the road-using public and influencing road safety policy.
Annual Membership to Bristol Advanced Motorists is £15 and the first year's subscription is included in the Skill for Life fee.
We serve an area from Weston-super-Mare to Gloucester and are affiliated to the IAM. Each year we run 4 advanced driving courses; taking 20 - 30 drivers on each. Between 80 - 100 drivers go on to pass the Advanced Driving Test in Bristol each year.
The Group is a registered charity dedicated to promoting driving skills through its education programmes and information services. We have a membership of over 350 of which 30 are fully trained Advanced Driving Observers.
Our aim is to reduce the road fatality and serious injury figures around Bristol by training drivers to an advanced standard.
We are run entirely by volunteers and virtually all of our funding comes from our own members. Even our lecturers and Observers, who guide drivers through the courses in their own time, giving countless hours of practical on-road advice, offer all their time freely and without charge.
The Group meets once a month at the BAWA Health and Leisure Centre in Southmead Road Filton. Our meetings are free and open to everyone and we have a varied programme of guest speakers throughout the year.
Bristol Advanced Motorists' maxim is 'Driving Skills Forward Since 1958'. That's just what we do.
